Awards Season

If you have read some of my blog entries, you will know that I am a fan of entertainment. Every year, I look forward to award show season.

2010 was not a particularly good year for quality movies or film. I actually thought that as December 31 loomed, there would not be enough great/good films to select from to be considered for an award. Every year, studios trot out their best material in late fall - November and December.

According to the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences (AMPAS@) aka The Oscars@ the top 10 films of 2010 are (in alpha order and with release date in parentheses) and yes, I have seen all these movies:
  1. 127 Hours (Nov.5)
  2. Black Swan [2010] (Dec.17)
  3. The Fighter [2010] (Dec.10)
  4. Inception (Jul.16)
  5. The Kids Are All Right (Jul.30)
  6. The King's Speech (Nov.26)
  7. The Social Network (Oct.1)
  8. Toy Story 3 (June 18)
  9. True Grit [2010] (Dec.22)
  10. Winter's Bone (June 11)
Four movies released in summer and 6 in fall/winter. A more interesting statistic about this year's top 10 is that only three would be considered 'studio' movies -'Inception' was released by Warner Bros., 'Toy Story 3' by Disney/Pixar and 'The Social Network' by Columbia Pictures (Sony). The other 7 are independent films.

My favourite film of 2010, is 'The Social Network', followed closely by 'The King's Speech' and 'The Kids Are All Right'. I would be very happy if any of these three should win the 'big prize' on February 27.
